Medical Malpractice

I do not understand how universities hospitals are known to be the best?

I was at university of Chicago today. There where 30 people waiting ahead of me. So, the wait time was more than 8 hours, so I left. Most of the staff was rude and talked ghetto. The building looked like a piece of shit and not in the best neighborhood. I like the hospitals in the subarbs better.

  1. a University that has a medical school usually does research, and has access to the latest meds, sometimes to experimental meds. That doesn't mean they are necessarily courteous.
  2. Hospitals are usually accredited through the Joint Commission (acronymn JACHO). Certain standards of care have to be met in order to be accredited. Were you in the emergency room? The emergency rooms in inner-city hospitals are usually very busy mainly because people of lower income go there instead of trying to make an appointment with a doctor (which can take even longer).
  3. Universities have access to the newest technology and drugs and are usually part of medical studies working on the cutting edge of bio-medical technology. That's not going to change the wait time in the emergency room (which people are dealt with based on not the order in which they came in but in the order of who needs the help most immediately).
  4. US News and World Report puts the list out of the best hospitals in the US. In the provided link is a menu that has "full methodology" on how they determined which were the best. I did briefly look thru it (ok not briefly but quickly) and I didn't see where they asked any patients from the ER. It's interesting reading if your not doing anything for the next couple days
