what is the importance of medical law to a medical recepionist?

1. Geez, there's a lot of rules involving privacy and there are some pretty stiff penalties for violating them. The receptionist could get in trouble but definitely her employer could get in a lot of trouble. People call in to doctors or other medical practictioners (hospitals, etc.) all the time wanting information like "Is so-and-so your patient?" or "When is so-and-so's next appointment?" Maybe the receptionist can answer and maybe the receptionist can't. I mean, geez, I wouldn't want just anybody to know things about me!!!
