How can you help feeling sorry for Michelle?
Until her husband ran for President she had never felt proud of her country. She's been struggling, meeting her household budget, finding time for her family to be together. It's sad that she's having such a hard time of it. I received a less than 3% raise in my military retiree pension last year. That pension was earned by serving my country for 20 years, sometimes in less than ideal conditions - for example in the jungles of southest asia a few years ago. Michelle also got a pay raise. In 2006, the Chicago Tribune reported that Mrs. Obama’s compensation at the University of Chicago Hospital, where she is a vice president for community affairs, jumped from $121,910 in 2004, just before her husband was elected to the Senate, to $316,962 in 2005, just after he took office. And that does not count the money Mrs. Obama receives from serving on corporate boards. Life is hard. OMG, I'm starting to sound like a liberal with class envy syndrome! Retrograde - The difference in welfare and my military pension is the fact that I EARNED it by settling for low wages for a dangerous job, uprooting my family every three years, and living in some hellhole locations. You're right, I do criticize unearned welfare. There are plenty of ways that recipients of "freebies" can work off their benifits. I worked to provide the tax dollars to pay for it. Why shouldn't they?

- You're living off the government (tax dollars) and voting Republican? What a shock. I'll bet you complain about welfare.
- LOL.. Yeh.. I feel sorry for her all right... Sorry enough to spit in her face if I ever had the oppurtunity to do so.
- What a pathetic excuse for a person... Life is so hard Affirmative Action got me my law degree. My country is horrible.
- mate, she's just another victim of the obama brainwashing
- I don't feel sorry for the Obamas. I think they are like most Republicans, whiners and opportunists. Obama is the candidate the mainstream media wants us to vote for so he must be tied in with the corporate power structure and I just see an empty suit.
- I feel as sorry for her as I do for obscenely paid athletes who go on strike.
- To answer your question; Yes, I can see where she needs "change". Thats why she tells people not to go into the business world and earn that evil money. http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1978279/posts?page=165 Mrs. Obama urged them to foreswear lucrative professions like corporate law or hedge fund management and go into the helping industry, even if the sacrifice is great:
- First off, thank you for your service to our country! Michelle's reference to Corporate Law and Hedge Funds were simply a shot at Hillary and Chelsea, as Hillary was a corporate lawyer and Chelsea is a hedge fund manager. That's why she chose to mention those two specific fields as areas for people to NOT go into. (The people she was making the speech to were just average people, none of whom would have ever gone into those fields anyway...she was not speaking to them, she was just taking a shot at Hillary and Chelsea).
- More power to Michelle to voice her feelings. She will be a fine first lady. Freedom applies to everyone in the US.
