Cheapest vet in or near NYC?

Last time took my cat to the vet, it was an emergency walk-in. After my cat treated and released, we ended up with some crazy fees. (A little over $1k for an abscess on a kitten!) This place was the Bergh Memorial Animal Hospital in the ASPCA on 92nd St. It's a very wonderful place with excellent facilities and a wonderful staff but as it looks like my cat might have to go in again, I need to find a place that isn't too much of a strain on my family's budget. Does anybody have any suggestions or reviews for a place anywhere or close to NYC that is a little bit more wallet-friendly?
