Medical Malpractice

I need to know of a town in New York City area?

My mom any years ago in the 1940s worked in a hospital in the New York City ( I live in CA so I am not familiar with New York). She mentioned the place she lived was "odestville" There is no such city that I can find in google or any hospital located in a city with a like sounding name. My mom had a very strong spanish accent so who knows what town she meant. Does anyone know what town that might have been. I know it wasnt far from NYC and she worked in a hospital so that's about all the info I can give you. Any help will be appreciated.
